The Draft

Guys we talked about this on here about a year ago before the situations with North Korea and Iran worsened. Now with North Korea looming, and an eye on Iran... our millitary is stretched way too thin-simply do not have the personnel to cover all fronts if we are to continue policing the world. Obviously we are staying in Iraq. I heard a top officaial say the other night that we did not have enough folks to fight Al-Q right now. I cannot shake the feeling in my gut that the draft will be reinstated. Thoughts/Opinions?

If things continue on the road they are on, I have little doubt you are right. Maybe I'm a pessimist, but I feel like we're on the edge of something horrible. Sounds weird to say this, but I am expecting a small nuke or something along those lines anytime. If not in the US, somewhere by surprise and then the snowball just keeps gathering size and speed.

I believe the draft will come about in the near future. We as America can only do so much for so many people/countries. Were are the countries when we need them. It's like we are that rich relative that everybody moochies off of, lol. What would the world do if we ever decided to say enough of this [censored] and stop helping? What if we brought all our troops back home and said deal with your own mess?

I firmly believe in the patriotism of my fellow Americans and that we will do what we think is best for our country. However, if something doesn't give soon, I can see it coming andit won't be a pretty sight. Just think about what happened with the draft during Vietnam. Many dodged the draft then and more than likely do so again.

We need to quit trying to slap everybody around like a redheaded step child and take care of ourselves for a change. Quit policing the world and let them do a few things for themselves. We have alot more problems in our own backyard to worry about. The longer we stay away from home trying to protect other people, more and more are setting up shop in our house waiting to strike.

What are all the restrictions if they did reinstate the draft as far as who goes, who doesn't? I couldn't remember, do you have to be a certain weight? vision? hearing? I really don't know if those would restrict who they select or just push you further back in line... Does anyone know?

Just my two cents. Don't think it will happen. The public won't allow it to happen. I don't think the invasion of Iraq was a good thing, but I don't think the military is overextended. They are rotating in 6-month cycles. We will sanction Iran and North Korea to within an inch of their lives. As a superpower, we have to worry about everybody else, because if we don't, they will be the next to get us. That's why we spend so much money in some of these God foresaken countries...so they don't become terrorist training centers. Not to sound snippy, but most of us get our info from the news channels. How many positive stories are on the news? The media sways public opinion.

Also this conflict with North Korea and Iran isnt just a US conflict it is a global conflict. other countries will send support through thier troops

It doesn't matter if the public will allow it or not. We won't have a say so in the matter. And trust me, if something happens to NK or Iran it will turn into a global event. One thing I'm definatel not looking forward to is fighting 1 billion Chinese.
